Terms of Service

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is older, to take the crown. By uploading a photo and paying, you are confirming that you meet this requirement and have the legal capacity to enter into this agreement.

The photo you upload must be of you, or of someone else who has clearly given you permission to use their photo this way — publicly, permanently, and as part of a joke product about overthrowing internet kings. Do not upload a photo of a private individual without their consent, even one you personally own the rights to.

When you take the crown, you are paying for status: the title of King of the Internet for as long as you can hold it, and a permanent listing in the Hall of Fallen Kings once somebody takes it from you. That is the entire product.

Specifically, you are not buying:

• a physical product, or any good that gets shipped to you
• a digital file or licence beyond what is granted back to you in Section 5
• an investment, security, share, or financial instrument of any kind
• a cryptocurrency token, NFT, or anything representing ownership of the site, the crown, or future revenue
• any expectation of profit, return, or resale value

The price only goes up because that is the game, not because the crown is an appreciating asset. Nobody who has ever held the crown owns any part of Take the Crown.

The crown is paid for entirely in cryptocurrency — Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT and 300+ other coins — through NOWPayments, a third-party hosted invoice. We never see your wallet address, private keys, or card details, and we do not accept card payments at all.

Crypto transactions confirm on a blockchain, not instantly. Depending on the coin and network conditions, confirmation can take anywhere from a couple of minutes to considerably longer. The price you are quoted when checkout starts is the price you are expected to pay; the crown is granted only once your payment has actually confirmed.

The crown is held for you while you pay. When you open checkout, the crown is reserved for you alone for a short window — 90 seconds by default — and nobody else can start a purchase during it. If our payment provider tells us your transaction has actually been broadcast and is confirming, that hold is extended automatically so a slow block cannot cost you the crown. If you do not pay and the hold lapses, the crown is released and the next challenger may take it.

Because confirmations take time, it is possible for someone else to take the crown after you have sent your payment but before it confirms. When your payment does settle, the server checks the live price again. If your payment no longer clears the current price, you are not crowned.

In that case, you are owed a refund of what you paid. Refunds on crypto payments cannot be issued automatically — the hosted invoice never gives us your wallet address, so a human has to send it back by hand from the NOWPayments dashboard. This is not instant. Expect it to take a few days; email hello@takethecrown.lol if it is taking noticeably longer than that and we will look into it.

Before you pay, you can walk away at any point at no cost. Closing the checkout, or simply not sending the payment, cancels nothing but the hold — you are charged only when you actually send coins.

Once you are crowned, the payment is final. What you bought — the reign, the number, the permanent place in the record — is delivered in full the moment your payment confirms, and it cannot be handed back. We do not offer refunds on a completed crowning, and blockchain payments cannot be reversed or charged back by anyone, including us.

If you are a consumer in a jurisdiction that grants a statutory cancellation or withdrawal period for distance purchases (for example the 14-day right in the EU and UK), that right normally ends once digital content has been fully delivered with your express request and acknowledgement. By ticking the consent box at checkout you are asking us to grant the crown as soon as your payment confirms, and acknowledging that you lose any such withdrawal right at that moment. Nothing here removes rights the law in your country does not allow us to remove.

The photo, display name, decree and any links you submit become part of the public record the moment you are crowned. You keep whatever rights you already had in them — we are not taking ownership of your photo — but by submitting them you grant Take the Crown a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, perpetual licence to host, display, reproduce and adapt them. That includes cropping, re-encoding, compositing them onto illustrated scenes, and generating share cards, GIFs and social posts from them, for as long as the reign stays in the historical record — which, by design, is indefinitely (see the Privacy Policy for what that actually means).

This licence survives you losing the crown. It does not survive a successful redaction request under Section 7 — that stops future display of the specific image or name going forward, though it does not undo copies already made or shared by others before then.

Also not allowed, and grounds for redaction, removal, or a voided reign at our discretion: sexually explicit content, content promoting violence or self-harm, spam, and anything designed to deceive — fake claims, phishing links in the decree or link fields, malware.

We can hide an image or a name and decree we judge to violate these terms, at any time, without asking first. When we do, the reign itself stays in the Hall of Fallen Kings — the fact that someone held the crown, when, and for how much is part of the permanent historical record — but the offending image or text is replaced with a placeholder. We redact; we do not rewrite history.

In serious cases — impersonation, non-consensual images, illegal content — we can also void the reign entirely, including reversing the crowning as if it had not happened, at our sole discretion and without a refund if the violation was yours.

Take the Crown is provided "as is." We intend the Hall of Fallen Kings to stay online and unchanged forever — permanence is the whole point of the product — but we cannot promise perfectly uninterrupted uptime, that no data will ever be lost to a technical failure, or that the service will exist forever no matter what. We make no warranty, express or implied, of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or that the service will be error-free or secure.

We can change these terms, change the price mechanics, add or remove features, or shut the service down, at any time. If we materially change these terms we will update the date at the top of this page; continuing to use the site afterwards means you accept the change.

To the maximum extent the law where you live allows, Take the Crown and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service — including loss from sending funds to the wrong address, loss arising from a blockchain-level failure outside our control, or reputational harm from your own public and permanent content. Where liability cannot be fully excluded by law, it is capped at the amount you paid for your most recent crown.

These terms are governed by the laws of Israel, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Try us first — email us and we will try to sort it out informally. Anything that cannot be resolved that way is handled in the competent courts of Israel. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of protections your local law gives you that cannot be contracted away.

We will post updates here and move the "last updated" date at the top of this page. It is on you to check back occasionally; we will not email you about a change unless we judge it significant enough that you would want to know.
